Although I am convinced humanity's greatest mistake was putting plow to the ground, AKA agriculture, there is a correct way to do it. And we can tell by results regarding topsoil. If the particular method increases topsoil, it is ethical, environmentally sound and good for earth. If topsoil is being depleted, then the whole thing is wrong.
The best hack for telling if the food we are putting in our mouth is good for us and the planet, is to ask ourselves if its production increased topsoil. If it does, eat and feast on.
This is a good short video that explains what environmentally sound agriculture looks like. It has only one minor mistake that I forgive, given that it is so good at presenting the basics: cows don't fart. Cows burp. And whatever methane they produce is negligible. The video author bit on the propaganda fallacy of cows and global warming. Cows raised in grass, using rotational field techniques, are the best agents for increasing topsoil, reducing CO2 in atmosphere and reversing anthropogenic global warming.
